Shooting investigation

On April 26, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Cambridge Police Department officers received a “Shot Spotter Alert” for a single gunshot in the area of Rosemont Avenue and Camelia Street. After responding to the location, officers were contacted by a citizen who had heard multiple shots and observed several African-American male subjects who appeared be 13-15 years old in dark clothing on Rosemont who were in a shooting stance and shooting toward Camelia. Further investigation utilizing camera systems in the area showed that there were three juvenile males who had walked from the Rigby Avenue area to Rosemont Avenue. The subjects were observed firing two shots at a subject who was walking in the 900 block of Camelia Street. Officers canvassed the area and did not locate any suspects. The victim who was being shot at also had not been able to be located at the time of the CPD’s April 27 report. The suspects were described as:

  • Light-skinned male subject with white shorts and either white shoes or tall white socks.
  • Dark-skinned male subject wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white marking on the back, dark shoes.
  • Male subject wearing a puffy black jacket, face mask, khaki pants, black or blue shoes.

The possible victim was described as a juvenile African-American male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, light colored jeans with holes and black shoes.

There were no other reports for the shots fired other than the Shot Spotter Alert in this incident. This is an ongoing investigation, and the Cambridge Police Department is requesting the assistance of the community. All witnesses or victims are asked to contact CPD at 410-228-3333. Callers can remain anonymous.

Theft

On April 19, at approximately 1:48 p.m., CPD officers took a theft report from E.S. Hubbert’s. Management reported that over the course of several days, a subject had been stealing bags of mulch.

On April 21, a 58-year-old Cambridge man turned himself in, saying he had committed the theft of the mulch. He was issued a criminal citation and released on his signature. Robert James Poole was charged with theft less than $100 value.

Attempt to disarm officer

On April 20, at approximately 9:30 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 500 block of West Appleby Avenue for a disturbance. Officers contacted the complainant who said a man was refusing to leave the property.

Officers attempted to assist the man by giving him a ride, first helping him put on his shoes after the man told them his back was injured. While the officers were doing this, the man allegedly lunged at one, grabbing his Taser and attempted to disarm the officer.

The man was arrested and escorted to a patrol vehicle. The suspect continued to resist officers by attempting to pull away and dropping to the ground. While being placed in the patrol vehicle, he kicked the car doors in an attempt to prevent them being shut.

He was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Craig Alprentice Wallace was charged with disarm law enforcement officer and assault second degree.

Violation of probation

On April 23, at approximately 1 a.m., CPD officers responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of Hughes Court, where they arrested a 35-year-old Cambridge man. During the investigation, they contacted a suspect in the area of Poplar Street and Gay Street.

The man had an active Dorchester County Bench Warrant through CPD for violation of probation on an original charge of dangerous weapon conceal and CDS possession not cannabis for failing to obey an order of the court on July 30, 2019.

Olin Phillip Carr III was arrested and transported to CPD for processing, where he had his initial appearance before a court commissioner. Carr was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond.

Warrant service

On April 23, at approximately 10:30 p.m., CPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1300 block of Rainbow Avenue. The driver, a 47-year-old Cambridge man, had multiple warrants for his arrest. He was transported to CPD for processing and his initial appearance before a court commissioner. Linwood Cordell Marine was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond.

  • Warrant #1: Dorchester County District Court Bench Warrant for violation of probation on April 20, 2023, on an original charge of violate protective order, harassment, telephone misuse and mace chem device intent injure.
  • Warrant #2: Dorchester County District Court Bench Warrant for violating conditions of Drug Court due to failing to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2023.
Assault

On April 24, at approximately 1:52 a.m., CPD officers responded to the 300 block of Dorchester Avenue for a physical disturbance. Contact was made with the victim who reported being assaulted by a 59-year-old Cambridge man, who allegedly strangled the victim to the point that the victim could not breathe.

Officers observed injury to the victim, which was consistent with what was reported. The man was arrested and transported to CPD for processing and his initial appearance before a court commissioner. He was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Elton Aaron Bowser Sr. was charged with the following:

  • assault first degree
  • assault second degree
  • reckless endangerment.
