Meals til Monday

At the recent Board of Education meeting, the board thanked an organization now in its eighth school year of supporting DCPS students and families with food needs. MidShore Meals til Monday began by distributing 25 bags weekly at Vienna Elementary, and has worked with every DCPS school, currently giving out more than 600 bags weekly. Executive director Pam Allen and Meals til Monday founder Leslie Bishop were on hand to accept the recognition.

$1.8M for Benedictine School

On Nov. 14, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced the Senate’s passage of $41,921,000 in direct federal investments for community-led projects throughout Maryland as part of a package of three fiscal year 2024 government funding bills.

Among the projects included in the bill are:

Benedictine Residential Facility

Applicant: Benedictine School for Exceptional Children

Project Location: Caroline County

Amount Included: $1,800,000

Description: The Benedictine School is a multi-functional, year-round education and residential center serving more than 150 children and adults with severe intellectual disabilities. Funds will renovate the outdated living areas and health facilities to better suit the needs of students and their families.

Register for spring classes at Wor-Wic

Wor-Wic Community College is currently accepting registrations for credit classes during the spring term, which begins Jan. 12. Early registration is encouraged for the best selection of classes.

Admission, financial aid, career exploration, enrollment coaching, academic advising and registration services are available Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Student services are also available on select Saturdays – check the events calendar at worwic.edu for dates and times.

Wor-Wic offers several different credit class formats, including on-campus and online. Visit worwic.edu for more information and to register. New students who need help should call 410-334-2895 or email admissions@worwic.edu and include their name and a phone number where they can be reached.
