CAMBRIDGE – The County Council announced June 7 that the Dorchester County 911 Communications Division has moved to the AT&T ESInet Next Generation 9-1-1 system (NG911).

“The new NG911 system will enhance public safety by catering to residents’ rapidly evolving demands, products, lifestyles and technologies,” the statement said. “Dorchester County residents deserve reliable and efficient 9-1-1 emergency services, therefore, the new NG911 system will allow for:

  • Improved location accuracy of calls received from wireless devices
  • Call routing based on location of a calling device
  • Greater interoperability between 911 communications centers
  • A more resilient, reliable call delivery network
  • Ability to control call congestion by the use of dynamic routing, sending calls to neighboring 911 communications centers
  • Immediate failover routing to other 911 communications centers in the event of equipment failure or abandonment of our 911 center; assuring a 911 call never goes unanswered
  • The future ability to receive multi-mode voice, video, and data 911 requests.”

All Eastern Shore 911 centers will use the same system, which will improve the ability to communicate and share information. Dorchester County’s transition marks the completion of the project putting all nine Eastern Shore counties on the new state-of-the-art technology.
