Delaware statewide Democratic candidates launch digital ad campaigns ahead of general election

DOVER — Delaware Democrats vying for federal offices are beginning to launch their digital advertisement campaigns ahead of the Nov. 5 general election.

Primarily, those candidates are U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, who is running to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Tom Carper in the U.S. Senate, and state Sen. Sarah McBride, D-Wilmington, who is pursuing the incumbent congresswoman’s seat.

The ad campaigns come just over two weeks after the Sept. 10 primary election where - while U.S. Rep. Blunt Rochester was unopposed - Sen. McBride cruised to a landslide victory over two other Democrats.

Now, in the general election, U.S. Rep. Blunt Rochester will be pitted against Republican businessman Eric Hansen and Independent Dr. Mike Katz, who served in the Delaware state Senate as a Democrat from 2009 to 2013.

Sen. McBride will be on the ballot alongside Republican John Whalen III, a political newcomer who served in the state Department of Public Safety’s Division of State Police.

While the Wilmington Democrat won the primary with record-breaking fundraising and a wealth of statewide and national endorsements, Mr. Whalen was victorious against the Delaware Republican Party’s endorsed candidate, Donyale Hall.

U.S. Rep. Blunt Rochester’s ad focuses on her plans to promote affordable housing in Delaware amid the statewide and national housing crisis, and Sen. McBride’s advertisement highlights her work in the state Senate on a number of issues, such as paid family and medical leave.

Attempts to reach opposing statewide candidates in theses races about their digital campaign efforts were unsuccessful as of Tuesday night.
