MILLSBORO — Delaware State Police charged a 44-year-old Millsboro man with reckless endangering and gun offenses following a shooting Tuesday.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., troopers responded to a local hospital for a man being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound, spokesperson Cpl. Amina Ali said.

Police contacted the man, identified as Robert Bishop, who stated that he accidentally shot himself at his residence on the 30000 block of Cordrey Road, she said.

Troopers discovered that Bishop shot himself in the wrist while in his garage, Cpl. Ali said, adding that the man’s 54-year-old employee was also in the garage at the time and was not injured.

Bishop is a convicted felon prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm, and troopers subsequently recovered the gun, ammunition and a crossbow from his home, Cpl. Ali said.

Once discharged from the hospital, Bishop was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of ammunition by a person prohibited (a felony), second-degree reckless endangering and failure to comply with taking photos and fingerprints.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 for these charges and other pending warrants. He was issued a $13,500 unsecured bond and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $6,000 cash bond for the warrants.
