The Delaware flag will be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset at state facilities Thursday, in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, Gov. John Carney said Wednesday.
Local governments, businesses and residents are encouraged to lower their flags, as well, to promote awareness of overdose prevention strategies and to acknowledge those who have experienced the loss of a loved one to an overdose.
Recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day in Delaware was declared by Senate Joint Resolution 2, which passed on the final day of the legislative session June 30. The measure was sponsored by Sen. Stephanie Hansen, D-Middletown, and signed into law Aug. 3.
