NEWARK — Once again, the Delaware men’s lacrosse team will have to prove itself again first to get into the main draw of the NCAA Division I Tournament.
The Blue Hens (12-4) will host Marist on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the tourney’s play-in game. The winner will then go to No. 1 Duke on Sunday at 5 p.m.
A year ago, Delaware downed Robert Morris, 20-8, in the NCAA play-in round before rallying to upset No. 2 Georgetown, 10-9, to reach the national quarterfinals.
Marist (10-7) is the champion of the MAAC. The Red Foxes started the season only 4-7 before going on a six-game winning streak to earn the NCAA tournament berth.
The Hens won the CAA title with a 13-10 win over Stony Brook in the league finals on Saturday. Delaware is 6-0 all-time against Marist, beating the Red Foxes, 18-9, in the regular season last spring.
