Delaware Climate Leadership Academy to launch second cohort

Posted

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control announced the expansion of the Delaware Climate Leadership Academy on Thursday.

Staff from higher-education institutions, representatives of nonprofit organizations and private-sector professionals working in sustainability and environmental planning now have the chance to join state and local government employees to enroll in the academy. In the spring, the inaugural cohort saw participation from 90 individuals, representing 10 state agencies and five local governments.

The academy, which is administered in partnership with the Association of Climate Change Officers, provides training that teaches participants to integrate concepts of climate change mitigation and adaptation into their professional decision-making. Its curriculum helps individuals learn about climate change’s impact on Delaware, how the state can prepare for these challenges and how it can reduce emissions and improve resilience.

Online training is administered in both day and evening sessions, and there is no fee for the 40-hour, two-month academy. Participants outside of government pursuing the Association of Climate Change Officers’ certified climate-change professional credential are required to pay that application and exam fee, which is waived for government employees.

The deadline to register is Oct. 24. For information and to register, visit here.
