Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, library to host planting event

Posted

GEORGETOWN — The Delaware Center for the Inland Bays is joining the Georgetown Public Library to host a volunteer planting event Saturday.

The gathering will take place at the Stockley Center, 26351 Patriots Way, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Funded by an Environmental Protection Agency grant and in partnership with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, this initiative aims to create vegetated filter strips utilizing hundreds of native flowers.

These strips are planted along waterways or near storm drains to capture and filter pollutants from surface runoff before they reach the water. By using native plants, these strips remove excess nutrients and sediment and provide habitat and food sources for pollinators.

Volunteers should dress appropriately for the weather, and bring water, a hand trowel and gardening gloves. Spanish speakers will be on-site.
