Delaware AG announces three indictments

WILMINGTON — The Delaware Department of Justice on Friday announced three indictments secured by the Division of Civil Rights & Public Trust, including alleged hate crimes and official misconduct.

First, an Amtrak police officer was indicted Monday by a New Castle County grand jury after he allegedly threatened a neighbor and boasted that he abused and would continue to abuse the state's criminal justice system.

The incident began July 3, when a Wilmington woman approached a group of people lighting fireworks near a vehicle and asked them to move away, DOJ said.

Prosecutors allege that Keyah King, 35, then launched into a profanity-laced tirade in which he repeatedly threatened to shoot the woman, referred to his past abuses of the Delaware Criminal Justice Information System and said that he would prevent the Wilmington Police Department from coming to her aid.

Mr. King is charged with official misconduct and terroristic threatening.

In the second indictment, a Bear woman faces a hate crime charge after allegedly berating a minor with racial slurs. Cathy A. White, 60, is accused of approaching a Black child who was alone in the Bear Acme on Aug. 13 and harassing the child with derogatory, demeaning, intimidating and humiliating racial epithets.

Ms. White was indicted Monday for harassment, a misdemeanor, and hate crime, a felony.

Finally, a Wilmington man faces eight charges, including four felonies, after allegedly repeatedly harassing and threatening three people — including a responding officer — on Aug. 31.

Sylvester A. Gordon, 64, is accused of repeatedly accosting and threatening two people in Wilmington — including making references to their race and perceived national origin. When a police officer responded to the scene, Mr. Gordon similarly accosted him, DOJ said.

Mr. Gordon was indicted Monday for three counts of hate crimes, one count of terroristic threatening, one count of terroristic threatening of a public servant, two counts of harassment and one count of disorderly conduct.
