REHOBOTH BEACH - A death investigation is ongoing after two persons, one deceased, were found inside a hotel room with gunshot wounds Sunday, authorities said.

Rehoboth Beach Police spokesman Lt. Jaime Riddle said that at around 12:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to a hotel on Christian Street for a report of a possible deceased person inside of one of the rooms.

Prior to arrival, Lt. Riddle said, responding officers were advised that the caller reported that the incident appeared to be a suicide.

The initial officer entered the room and found the victims, a male and a female, with gunshot wounds to the head. Additionally, the officer located loaded 9mm handguns within the immediate vicinity of each victim, police said.

Both handguns were immediately secured for the safety of all on scene, Lt. Riddle said.

According to police, the officer determined that the male was deceased and the female was unconscious, but breathing. The officer immediately began rendering first aid until emergency medical services personnel arrived on scene and assumed care of the patient, police said.

The female was removed from the scene and transported to a local hospital where she remains on life support, police said.

The victims are a 23 year old female from Newark and 28 year old male from Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

Out of respect for the privacy of the families of the victims their names are not being released at this time, Lt. Riddle said.

At this time police are not seeking any additional persons in relation to this investigation and there are no current threats to public safety.
