CRISFIELD — The Crisfield Elks 194 Pride Lodge will hold its annual Organizational Day parade on Sunday, April 23. Participants will line up at 1 p.m. by the former Whittington Primary School property on Somerset and Asbury avenues with the parade starting at 3. Participants will head down West Main Street, turn at Fourth Street and disband past the reviewing stand which is set-up in front of the lodge hall.

The Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World was founded in 1898 in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a year later the first charter and articles of incorporation were granted. The Crisfield lodge organized in the summer of 1914 in a storefront on Locust Street. The first modern celebration of the local chapter’s founding was in 1986, two years before ground was broken on the current lodge hall.

Joining the Pride Lodge in the celebration is the Light of Crisfield Temple 86. “Our parade continues to be a highlight of our community and our legacy,” stated Daughter Teina M. Veney, leader of the parade committee, in the annual announcement letter.

“Musical units, floats, drill and cheer teams, equestrian units, clowns, classic cars, military units, civic groups, Cub/Boy/Girl scout troops, and any other appropriate parade entities…are encouraged and welcome” including school groups, government, social organizations along with accompanying floats.

For more information or an application for the parade, contact Ms. Veney at veneyt@rentone.com or call 202-438-2444. There also is advertising blocks being sold in a souvenir booklet.
