SELBYVILLE – It’s status quo in the Town of Selbyville as longtime council members emerged big winners Saturday in the four-candidate race for two seats on the town’s governing body.

Incumbents Clarence W. Tingle, Jr. and G. Frank Smith III drew 71 and 68 votes, respectively, to outpoll challengers Carol R. Cary (39 votes) and William A. Thompson (26 votes) in the five-hour election.

Longtime Selbyville Mayor Clifton C. Murray was unopposed in his re-election bid. Mr. Murray has served as town mayor since March 1993, following a five-year stint on council dating back to 1988.

Mr. Smith joined the council in June 1988 and Mr. Tingle was served since March of 1989.

Mayoral and council terms in Selbyville are two years.
