PRINCESS ANNE — A University of Maryland Extension forestry expert will explore the connections between forests and people at the Haley School of Agriculture & Natural Sciences fall seminar Thursday, Oct. 29.
Dr. Daniel Pratson is a faculty member and extension specialist with the University of Maryland and UME. He has a programmatic focus on forestry and natural resources.
His talk will focus on “Connecting People and Place: New Directions in Maryland Forestry Extension.”
The seminar will be held at 11 a.m. in the Carver Hall Auditorium on the UMES campus.
Forests and human communities are inextricably intertwined. This seminar will explore research examining the values, attitudes and actions of cities and towns connected to forest resources. Pratson will highlight several interdisciplinary projects that illuminate aspects of complex relationships between people and place, and demonstrate how these projects inform current forestry extension research and programming at the University of Maryland.
Pratson earned his doctorate in natural resources from the University of Vermont, a master’s degree in forest resources and environmental conservation from Virginia Tech and a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from St. Mary’s College in Maryland.
The seminar host is Dr. Victoria Volkis and the seminar is free. For more information contact Dr. Ahmed Elnabawi at aelnabawi@umes.edu.
