CAMBRIDGE - The Circuit Court for Dorchester County building will be under construction beginning Sept. 12, a statement from the court said Sept. 1. The building will receive a new roof, which has been approved by the Dorchester County Historical Preservation Commission.
Scaffolding will be erected and installed around the building during this project, expected to last through December.
Citizens are asked to be aware that the entrance into the building may be relocated, and to look for signs directing them to the building’s entrance. Visitors are asked to use caution when entering the courthouse.
The statement said that during construction, courtroom access may be limited and hearings may be moved to other locations either within the building, such as the Orphan’s Courtroom, or possibly the District Court of Maryland for Dorchester County, located at 310 Gay St., Cambridge. As such, it is possible that some hearing times may have to be adjusted.
“Efforts will be made to notify parties in advance as to the relocation and times of courtroom activities, when possible,” the statement said. “If courtroom activities are relocated, you will be redirected upon your arrival at the courthouse. We ask for your patience and cooperation while this work is done to maintain and preserve our historic courthouse.”
