DOVER — The Capital School District announced on Thursday that it has hired Monica Shockley-Porter as the public relations specialist for the district.

Ms. Shockley-Porter comes to Capital School District from Universal Health Services Inc., where she served as the director of business development and community relations.

While at Universal Health Services, she wrote, edited and reviewed all media content and press releases. She developed promotional materials and publications (brochures, videos, social media posts, etc.).

She was also charged with rebranding the company’s logo, website and marketing materials to create a stronger market presence.

Ms. Shockley-Porter was previously employed as a program director at the Bair Foundation Inc. and as promotional director of UAC Nutrition and Wellness.

Ms. Shockley-Porter received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and holds two master’s degrees: a Master of Science in Administration of Justice and a Master of Business Administration.

She began her duties as the Capital School District’s public relations specialist on Monday.

Ms. Shockley-Porter will be visiting schools to become acclimated with the district and to engage with principals on ways she can promote the various programs in the schools.

Under the tutelage of Capital School District Superintendent Vilicia Cade, Ms. Shockley-Porter will launch new initiatives aimed at increasing communication, expanding the district’s reach and creating a new Parent Involvement Program in 2022.

She will also play a critical role in leading the Board of Education’s vision to rejuvenate, calibrate and elevate its brand locally, regionally and nationally.
