CAMBRIDGE – City Manager Tom Carroll released the draft 2023-2024 Budget and Capital Improvement program Friday. Highlights of the proposed budget include:

  • More than $7 million of sanitary sewer investments
  • Establishment of rainy-day and debt-repayment reserves
  • Establishment and capitalization of a land bank authority to address blight and property abandonment
  • Funding the establishment of the Portia Johnson-Ennels internship program to give young adults the chance to work for the city, earn a living wage and be trained to be the community’s leaders of tomorrow
  • Remediating environmental conditions at the old City Hall building at 307 Gay St. to prepare for an eventual renovation project of this iconic structure
  • Continuing and deepening community engagement between residents and the police to foster a partnership that will reduce crime, especially unacceptable levels of violent crime
  • Investing in the city’s workforce including advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the city of Cambridge organization.

The draft was scheduled to be briefly discussed at the City Council’s meeting Tuesday and at budget work sessions scheduled for May 8 and 22 from 5-6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers at 305 Gay St.
