Cambridge police officers attacked by juvenile, dog

CAMBRIDGE — In two separate incidents this week, Cambridge Police Department officers were assaulted. In one, a juvenile punched, kicked and spat on officers, while in the other, a dog attacked them before being shot.
On Jan. 27 at approximately 12:47 p.m., officers were called to the 700 block of Washington Street in reference to shots being fired, a statement from the department said. Investigation led to a residence in the 700 block of Washington Street.

While conducting the investigation, a male juvenile became disorderly and began resisting arrest by kicking two officers and spitting on another. The male juvenile was charged with two counts of assault on police, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and hindering. The juvenile was then released back to his guardian.

A short time later, officers learned that the same male juvenile had a body attachment warrant to be served on him. Officers responded back to his residence at which time he again refused officers’ commands, the statement said.
One officer approached the juvenile, at which time he punched the officer in the face, continued to swing, kick, and resist arrest. After spitting on the officers, the juvenile continued to kick and had to be physically placed in a patrol vehicle.
The juvenile was again charged with assault, resisting arrest and other related charges and is being held by juvenile services pending action by the court. The juvenile did not sustain any injuries; however, one officer received facial injuries for which he was treated at the hospital before being released.

Dog attacks, is shot
On Jan. 28 at approximately 12:15 p.m., officers from the Cambridge Police Department were attempting to execute an arrest warrant on a 34-year-old man who was found sitting in his vehicle in the 700 block of Rosemont Avenue. The man was wanted for robbery, first-degree assault and related charges regarding having his dog attack subjects.

When officers approached the man, he refused commands and rammed an unmarked police vehicle. While officers were attempting to remove the man from the vehicle, a dog jumped out and attempted to attack officers. The man resisted arrest and had to be physically restrained.

“After attempting to tase the dog did not prevail, officers unfortunately had to shoot the animal,” the statement said. Alfred Floyd will be served with the arrest warrant and additional charges will be forthcoming for assaulting the officers on scene. Floyd is also wanted throughout other jurisdictions, including the State of Georgia.
