CAMBRIDGE — The cars, trucks and bikes will start rolling in this Sunday, at 9 a.m. to participate in the second annual Downtown Car, Truck and Bike Show where the 400 block of Race Street, Poplar Street and part of the 300 block of High Street will be closed to accommodate an expected 75 to 100 cars, all vying for Best of Show or one of the 49 other trophies.

Cambridge Wheels, a local group of owners of all types of cars, trucks and buses are again hosting the Downtown Car, Truck and Bike Show to benefit Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care Center. The show last year attracted around 60 vehicles, both old and new, and even more vehicles are expected this year. There will be music, a 50/50 raffle, lots of great door prizes, food, ice cream, popcorn, oysters, vendors, 50 trophies; the first 50 registrants will get a dash plaque.

Downtown will be open for business, opening for the Second Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Last year the merchants that opened were pleased; Karen Fishell said “Thanks to the guys for putting this event on, Sunday simple is the best way to describe it. Great for business, great advertising most of the folks that I talked to had never been downtown Cambridge, and they came from Easton, Salisbury and Annapolis! They loved the town and said they would be back, thanks to everyone.”

Steve Batchelder, of the Cambridge Wheels Car Club says “As a result of the success of the First Downtown Car, Truck and Bike Show, the following businesses plan to be open; High Spot, Choptank Charlie’s, Gina’s, Jimmie & Sook’s, RaR Brewery, Sunnyside, Bliss, A Few of My Favorite Things, Leaky Pete’s, the Amish Shop.”

The parking lot at Craig’s Drug Store at Race and Poplar Streets will be the pivot point for registration which will last until 1 p.m.

The judging will begin at 1 p.m. and at 3 p.m. the winners will be announced, trophies awarded and the raffle winners will be drawn including a $5 raffle for a bushel of hard crabs from Lindy’s Seafood.

The Pleasant Day participants are hoping that the Downtown Car Show is successful since the money raised will be used to pay for its annual trip to Ocean City. This is the day when all of the participants go to Ocean City, eat on the Boardwalk, ride the Tram, eat soft ice cream and browse the stores and play games. Jackie Vickers, executive director of Pleasant Day Medical Adult Day Care says “It is so good of the Cambridge Wheels Car Club to host this great event that brings publicity and visitors to downtown and also helps Pleasant Day participants, some who may not have been to the Ocean for 30 years or so.”

Since show cars generally don’t go out in the rain, the rain date is the next Sunday, Aug. 17. For more information call Steve Batchelder 443-225-6755 or Ron Bromwell at 410-228-5874.
