CAMBRIDGE – The early-morning quiet of this town was disturbed Monday, when five men were shot, one fatally.

At 12:25 a.m. Cambridge police responded to the 1000 block of Jimson Road in reference to a ShotSpotter alert of multiple rounds of gunfire. Officers arrived, secured the scene and learned that a 25-year-old, a 19-year-old, and an 18-year-old man had been shot.

Two of the subjects were transported to the University of Maryland, Shock Trauma. The other subject is being treated locally.

At the time of a report from police around 9 a.m., it did not appear that any of the injuries were life-threatening. There were several vehicles and residences that had been damaged by the gunfire.

Then at 12:30 a.m., Cambridge police responded to the 400 block of Henry Street after receiving a 911 call of a subject shot. Officers located a man lying near the back steps of the home with several gunshot wounds.

He was identified as Kenneth Ramcharan, 37, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Maryland State Police homicide unit was requested to respond to investigate the incident. Deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Maryland State Police assisted in the initial investigations and securing crime scenes.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” the statement said. “Currently, it is unclear if the two incidents are related. We will provide an update as the investigation moves forward.”
