BRIDGEVILLE — A 27-year-old Bridgeville man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of his 52-year-old roommate, Delaware State Police said.

According to Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, on Friday, at approximately 11:14 p.m., the Bridgeville Police Department responded to 309 Cedar St. after the report of a missing person.

Officers saw that a violent confrontation had occurred in the home, police said, and resident Troy Scofield could not be located. The caller had seen Mr. Scofield’s housemate, Alan Alcantara, leaving the residence in a blue 2006 Honda Civic before the report was made.

The state police Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and linked Mr. Alcantara to Mr. Scofield’s disappearance and apparent killing, Cpl. DeMalto said. On Saturday, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for first-degree murder for the suspect.

A day later, at approximately 3:30 p.m., troopers located Mr. Alcantara’s Civic on a commercial property on the 20500 block of DuPont Boulevard in Georgetown. Upon searching the car, officers found Mr. Scofield’s body in the trunk, Cpl. DeMalto said.

On Tuesday, at approximately 3:03 a.m., Dover police responded to the 1000 block of South Little Creek Road for a report of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Alcantara hiding in a shed, police said, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

He was charged with first-degree murder, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $1 million cash bond.
