Posted

MILTON – Michael Lewis, a 33-year-old from Bridgeville, was arrested by Delaware State Police on gun and traffic charges after crashing his moped on Dec. 22.

A trooper responded to the area of Gravel Hill Road and Webb Road in Milton on Dec. 22 just after 7 p.m. for a crash involving a moped.

The trooper contacted the operator of the moped, later identified as Mr. Lewis, who had been detained by a Georgetown police officer after he attempted to leave the scene of the crash.

The trooper saw signs of impairment while talking to Mr. Lewis, who refused to provide his identification and a search incident to arrest was conducted of him and his belongings.

A loaded firearm, a bottle of brandy, and personal documents positively identifying Mr. Lewis were found during a search of his backpack. A computer inquiry revealed he is a convicted felon and prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Mr. Lewis was taken to Troop 4 in Georgetown, where he was charged with possession of a firearm previously convicted of a felony (felony), possession of a firearm while under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while revoked, operation of an unregistered motor vehicle and careless driving.

He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown on a $6,503 secured bond.
