Blues great Castiglia heading to Dover in December

Posted

DOVER — Central Delaware Blues Society will bring Albert Castiglia, one of the most in-demand blues artists in the world, to Dover in December.

Miami-raised Mr. Castiglia had humble beginnings, serving an apprenticeship while backing legendary blues musician Junior Wells. Today we find Mr. Castiglia enjoying a solo career that’s yielded many critically acclaimed albums and popularity for his exceptional instrumental prowess, his searing vocals, and live performances that have dazzled audiences from coast to coast.

After the highly successful and critically acclaimed release of “Masterpiece” on Gulf Coast Records, Mr. Castiglia was nominated for two Blues Music Awards in the categories of Blues Rock Album of the Year and Blues Rock Artist of the Year and won Blues Rock Album of the Year.

“We are absolutely thrilled to bring Albert back to Dover” saip Steve Rock, President of Central Delaware Blues Society, which offers weekly Blues performances and open jams at Del Vets Post 2 in Dover.

It was over 10 years ago when Central Delaware Blues Society started bringing Mr. Castiglia to Delaware with events each week at Jonathan’s Landing in Magnolia.

“It was much easier to book him then,” remarked Central Delaware Blues Society’s booking committee chairman Tim Ward. “He’s selling out shows around the world and topping the charts, too.”

The 7 p.m. show will be Dec. 19 at Del Vets Post 2, at 720 Pear St., Dover.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for general admission seating. Tickets are $30 for Central Delaware Blues Society members and $35 for nonmembers. Tickets are available at any of their Thursday Blues jams or at centraldelawareblues.com.

Memberships cost $25 and are also available online or at the weekly Blues jam. Del Vets will provide food for purchase from 6 until 7:30 p.m. with beverages and snacks all night.

In addition to touring, Mr. Castiglia has been busy in the studio, too. Fresh from winning another Blues Music Award at the recent festivities in Memphis for “Best Blues Rock Album” as a member of the duo Blood Brothers, with labelmate Mike Zito, Mr. Castiglia comes out guitar-slinging on his just-released solo Gulf Coast Records album, “Righteous Souls.”

Central Delaware Blues Society is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote and preserve the blues.

They host open Blues “jams” on Thursdays and offer shows featuring national and international touring artists to the public throughout the year at Del Vets Post 2 in Dover.

As Delaware’s only Blues Foundation affiliate, CDBS sends a representative artist or group to Memphis each year for the International Blues Challenge.
