Bethany Beach police chief charged with DUI

SELBYVILLE — Bethany Beach Police Chief Michael Redmon, 56, of Selbyville, was issued a ticket for DUI following a traffic stop May 30, authorities said today.

According to Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, the stop was conducted at approximately 12:19 a.m. on Lighthouse Road near Old Mill Bridge Road in Selbyville. Following the ticket, Chief Redmon was released to a sober party, police said.

Bethany Beach Town Manager Cliff Graviet released a statement today that read:

“Chief Redmon was placed on administrative leave from his duties as Chief of Police on May 31 pending the adjudication of the charge that has been placed against him.

"At the time the case is resolved within the criminal justice system, the Town will officially review the incident and determine its future actions regarding Chief Redmon.

“The Town has no further comment.”
