ELLENDALE — An 18-year-old Ellendale man was arrested after allegedly shooting an 11-year-old girl with a BB gun during an argument Tuesday, authorities said.
James R. Adkins discharged the rifle-style BB gun after arguing with the girl about her riding his bicycle, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said. Police were dispatched to the 18000 block of New Hope Road at approximately 8:19 p.m.
The juvenile sustained a minor injury but was not transported for medical attention, Cpl. Pepper said. Mr. Adkins was taken into custody at his residence without incident.
He was charged with second-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child and menacing. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3, Georgetown, and released on a $4,500 unsecured bond.
