Attempted robbery charge follows altercation at Royal Farms

DOVER - Kareem Young, 29, of Dover, was arrested on attempted robbery charges following an altercation at Royal Farms Thursday, police said.

Officers were called to 293 Saulsbury Road at 1:33 a.m., Dover police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said, and found Mr. Young being held down by employees. Officers then took him into custody without incident.

Police determined that Mr. Young entered the store wearing a black ski mask and immediately went behind the counter and removed several packages of cigarettes. He was confronted by staff, at which time he fought with them, causing a laceration to one of the employees, police said.

Mr. Young had been banned from Royal Farms due to previous cigarette thefts, police said.

Mr. Young was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, third-degree assault and third-degree criminal trespass. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution onf $34,050 secured bail.
