Athlete of the Week: Autumn Littleton, Milford wrestling

Posted

MILFORD — Milford High wrestler Autumn Littleton was voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.

The freshman won the 114-pound title at the Delaware Girls’ championships on Sunday. Littleton won all three of her matches by pin to top the weight class.

Littleton also competed on the Buccaneers’ boys’ team, wrestling in Milford’s DIAA Division I dual-meet quarterfinal match with Salesianum last week. She went 8-6 with four pins competing against boys during the regular season.

Veteran Bucs’ coach Dan Parsley said Littleton is the third female wrestler he’s had competing on the varsity level.

“What I can tell you is Autumn is just like the other two,” said Parsley. “She’s the hardest worker in the room, she leaves nothing on the table. She’s going to give you everything she has at every point in time.

“Certainly she’s highly competitive against the boys and, on the girls’ side, she appears to be a dominant force. ... She’s really talented and she works really hard. I’m excited to have her as part of our team.”

The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.

This process is performed exclusively online. When nominating an athlete, please include name, school and sport as well as a photo and brief description of why he or she deserves that week’s honor.

All nominations must be high school varsity athletes and come from high schools within Kent or Sussex counties. The winner appears in print and online each Sunday.
