Ashby: Negative effects of Trump administration are evident

Posted

To Mr. Stan Lakey, who says that he has “yet to hear (Trump haters’) plan to curb the debt,” I would like to say that you have not been listening (“Here’s what Americans should truly fear”). You have not been reading. You have not been learning from any source other than “Make America Great Again.” In the past year, prior to and during the election, both sides were well documented and presented to the American people. If you are unaware of what is being perpetrated by the current MAGA administration, it is simply because you choose to live in ignorance.

The only thing you write about is money, money, money, and your nightmare of having to pay $200,000 in debt. The real problem with the current administration is that human beings and laws don’t matter. Where is the windfall of savings supposedly being created by the Department of Government Efficiency and U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement? They must be in someone’s pocket because the debt is increasing and not decreasing.

The effects of the MAGA plan are seen in the nonfunctioning air traffic control system; in the lack of workers to harvest crops and work menial jobs that Americans won’t take; in the increasing lack of accurate weather forecasting; in the rising lack of help to communities ravaged by natural disasters; in the loss of freedoms; in the destruction of our Constitution and Bill of Rights; in the placement of untrained, inexperienced, incompetent people in positions of power simply because they kowtow to Donald Trump; and in the attacks on free speech, diverse education, science, journalism, law and all the other freedoms the United States has stood for throughout its history. Who is going to pay the mortgages of all those federal workers who were fired? Who is going to feed their families? Who is going to assist our citizens when they get old and need to apply for their rightfully earned Social Security, and there is no one to answer the phones because the few workers left have retired, and there are no probationary workers who have learned the ropes to fill the gaps? The shortsightedness is excruciating.
