DOVER — A woman who entered the Dover Middle School campus with a gun Wednesday was arrested, Dover Police said.

According to school officials and police, a staff member let in the woman who had a holstered 9mm gun on her hip, for a scheduled meeting at about 3 p.m.. A statement said she was mistakenly believed to be a law enforcement officer.

Dover Police identified the woman as 50-year-old Angel Lake.

“The (school resource) officer contacted Lake and located an unloaded 9mm handgun inside of a holster on her hip along with a magazine,” said Dover Police spokesman Master Corporal Ryan Schmid. “The ensuing investigation revealed that Lake was at the school attending a prescheduled meeting with staff. It was determined that Lake was prohibited from possessing firearms.”

She was taken into custody by the school resource officer.

Police say Ms. Lake was arrested on $11,000 unsecured bail for possession of a deadly weapon in a school zone, and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited.

According to police, it is still being evaluated how Ms. Lake was able to attend the meeting with a firearm in her possession.

Officials said that she never made any threats or behaved in a threatening manner nor state the reason for the meeting.

The district noted that weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on school grounds and violations of the policy will result in an arrest.

“It is unacceptable that an individual with a firearm was allowed to enter a school building. We take this situation extremely seriously and are taking prudent actions to address this,” wrote the district in a statement sent to families.

The district statement said the school will be reviewing the incident and reiterating safety and security protocols with staff.

“We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to address this matter and reinforce our commitment to safety,” the statement said.
