Annual lifeguard competition moves to Towers Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH — The 2024 U.S. Lifesaving Association’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships will begin at 9:30 a.m. July 10 and has moved to Towers Beach in Delaware Seashore State Park due to construction.

This is the 27th consecutive year the Rehoboth Beach Patrol has been selected to host the event, which draws 250-350 competitors from New York to Virginia.

It includes traditional lifeguarding competitions including a 90-meter sprint, a 2K beach run, a soft-sand beach relay, a 400-meter surf swim and swimmer, landline and paddleboard rescue races.

In addition, surf ski and board events, which traditionally have been held in New Jersey, will take place in Delaware for the first time this year.
