WHS Class of '21 president among the 2023 graduates at Wor-Wic

SALISBURY — Wor-Wic Community College 2023 spring commencement is May 10 at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center.

Among the graduates this term is Hannah Morton of Westover, a National Honor Society member while attending Washington High School where she graduated from in 2021 and was also her class president.

Like many students fresh out of high school, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do next. “My older sister also came to Wor-Wic,” Morton said. “I knew there were a lot of good opportunities here for students from Somerset County. And not knowing what I wanted to do, this was a good place to start.”

She was unsure about what to expect from college, but quickly adapted. “Especially for people right out of high school, Wor-Wic is such a welcoming place. Everyone here is open and kind.”

Morton was chosen as a student ambassador during her time at Wor-Wic. “It opened a lot of doors,” she said. “I met a lot of people, which is good for me.” As an aspiring health care provider, Morton knows it’s important to be comfortable with many different types of people.

“Whenever I picture my future, it’s always working in health care, so even if I am not sure what I want to do, I know what field I want to pursue,” she said.

Morton is transferring to Salisbury University to get a degree in health science.

Doors for commencement will open at 5 p.m. and the ceremony begins promptly at 7. Tickets are not required.

The guest speaker will be Jacob R. “Jake” Day, secretary of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, and prior to his appointment by Gov. Wes Moore was the mayor of Salisbury.
