PRINCESS ANNE — Maryland State Police identified the two victims in an apparent murder and suicide from July 5.

Richard “Ricky” Cantwell III, 35, and Michael Jarman, 61, both of Princess Anne, were pronounced deceased inside their home by emergency medical service personnel and their bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit which is leading the investigation reported that Cantwell was Jarman’s stepson and both men lived in the residence along with Cantwell’s mother.

It was about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday last week when the State Police at the Princess Anne Barrack responded to a call for a shooting at a residence in the 32000 block of West Post Office Road.

Responding troopers found Cantwell and Jarman, each suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The investigation indicates Cantwell and Jarman were inside their home when the incident occurred.

Investigators learned a verbal altercation occurred prior to the shooting. Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division crime scene technicians processed the scene for evidence, and the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office was notified and a representative responded to the scene. Assistance was also provided by the Princess Anne Police Department.

While the State Police did not immediately release more details Cantwell’s father Richard posted on Facebook that it was Jarman who shot and killed his son before apparently taking his own life.

A friend of the family, Matt Vickers, organized a Go Fund Me page to raise $10,000 for funeral expenses to go directly to Cantwell’s mother, Threasa Jarman, and in five days over $8,000 was already raised.
