Marina at Shad Landing State Park recertified as Clean Marina

Posted

ANNAPOLIS — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources has announced that four marinas were recently successfully recertified as Maryland Clean Marinas for another three years.

Locally that includes Shad Landing at Pocomoke State Park. According to DNR, recertification visits are similar to first time inspections when a site visit is conducted to determine if all required reports and plans can be verified to program staff.

The Shad Landing Marina has 23 boat slips with water and electrical hookups, launching ramp, lighted dock area and a fuel and transient pier. Ethanol free unleaded fuel and a pump out station are available.

Boat rentals are operated at the boat rental building at the Shad Landing area. For more information and rental rates contact the park at 410-632-2566.

Off site canoe and kayak rentals, multiple day rentals, deliveries and shuttle services are also available from partner Pocomoke River Canoe Company.

The hallmark of Certified Clean Marinas is that they adopt a significant portion of recommendations from the Maryland Clean Marina Guidebook, comply with all applicable environmental permits and regulations, and pass a site inspection conducted by DNR staff and another Clean Marina manager.

Currently there are 116 Clean Marinas and among them is Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield. The other three recertified are Ocean Pines Marina, Magothy Marina and Horn Point Harbor.

Clean Marina Partner is a designation for smaller marine facilities without services. "Partners" cater to short term or day users (rather than annual slip holders) and currently there are 28 Clean Marina Partners including Janes Island State Park.
