Main Street Princess Anne receiving $87,000 safety grant

ANNAPOLIS — Main Street Princess Anne is one of more than 300 business districts and nonprofits across Maryland to share in Gov. Larry Hogan’s announcement of $10 million in grant awards through the new Community Safety Works program — a key plank of the governor’s Re-Fund The Police Initiative.

Administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, $87,000 was earmarked to Princess Anne with a portion to be used in part for lighting and security cameras downtown and in Manokin River Park.

Carrie Samis, Main Street manager, said this will be in partnership with the police department, however, $100,000 was requested and at the time of Gov. Hogan’s announcement was not immediately known what was cut.

Community Safety Works grants are for crime prevention strategies through physical design improvements, operational activities, and increased property maintenance.
