Five Vietnam era veterans to be recognized at Old Rehoboth Church service May 7
REHOBETH — Old Rehoboth Presbyterian Church will honor five Vietnam War era veterans during its 11 a.m. service Sunday, May 7.
Robert Hess, Clifford “Toby” Dryden, Wayne Dryden, John Handy and Tom Keida will each receive a handmade Quilt of Valor which serves as a symbol of comfort and healing.
It’s been 50 years since the last contingent of American troops stationed in Vietnam were ordered out to return to the United States. For many, their welcome home was harsh and unkind despite doing their duty for this nation.
One thousand forty-six Marylanders made the ultimate sacrifice defending Vietnam including the 35 men that remain missing. There are approximately 111,440 veterans of the war currently living in Maryland.
In a recent proclamation declaring March 30 “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day” Gov. Wes Moore stated they “deserve our deepest gratitude and admiration.”
Rehoboth Presbyterian’s pastor is the Rev. Kirk Dausman, and family and friends of the veterans are welcome to attend the service. The church is located at 5757 Coventry Parish Road, Westover.
