Delmarva Power announced it is extending its Sustainable Communities Grant Program application period through July 31.

Since the program’s launch in 2020, the Sustainable Communities Grant Program, which is facilitated by the Delaware Nature Society, has provided more than $180,000 in sustainability project grants.

Environmental and resiliency grants are available for nonprofits and municipalities throughout the company’s service area in Delaware and Maryland.

The 2023 program provides $50,000 in grants up to $25,000 each, to support resiliency projects that demonstrate innovation in providing a safe and reliable resource for a community during a time of emergency.

The program also provides $40,000 in grants of up to $10,000 each for projects focusing on open space preservation, improvements to parks and recreation resources and environmental conservation. The program supports the company’s focus on community giving with projects that provide energy empowerment through sustainability, environmental and open space initiatives. Examples of eligible projects include the development of recreation trails, the purchase of open space and the planting of trees and other vegetation.

Municipalities, recreational authorities and nonprofits in the Delmarva Power service area can apply for a Sustainable Communities grant each year. A committee with representatives from Delmarva Power and DelNature reviews each application and selects the projects to receive funding.
