Bayside basketball teams still alive

In high school Regional boys’ basketball action as of March 4, Cambridge-South Dorchester held off Pocomoke for the 1A East II title as Wi-Hi stormed past Queen Anne’s by 20 points in 2A action. The Indians squeaked by the Lions by only 2 points in the Bayside championship.

James M. Bennett outlasted Oxon Hill of Prince George’s County in the 3A final.

In girls’ tournament play Stephen Decatur 3A, Parkside 2A and Cambridge-South Dorchester 1A all claimed Regional titles and will move on to the State Quarterfinal level, as will the boys. Teams are reseeded at this point, with the top seed the host.

Bennett is a #7 seed, Wi-Hi #1, Cambridge-SD #4 in the boys’ playoffs, Decatur #1, Parkside #4, Cambridge-SD #8 in girls’ play. The Vikings will face Francis Scott Key but #1 Lake Clifton and #3 Edmondson are the 1A favorites. Wi-Hi hosts #8 Liberty in 2A, Bennett will travel to tackle a tough City squad in 3A boys.

Stephen Decatur hosts C. Milton Wright in 3A girls, Parkside hosts Fallston 2A, Cambridge-SD visits #3 Catoctin in 1A. Semifinal contests will be played at various sites on the Western Shore March 8-9, the finals are March 10 and 12 at College Park.
