Sept. 24: Dorchester Center for the Arts Showcase

CAMBRIDGE – Showcase is here! On Sunday, historic High Street will be filled with the arts for the annual Dorchester Center for the Arts Showcase event.

The event takes place from noon until 5 p.m., all the way to the waterfront. This art walk and street festival is DCA’s way of “Celebrating our Creative Community,” and is a family-friendly free arts event, held rain or shine. The generous support of the Nathan Foundation, the Maryland State Arts Council, and the staff and volunteers of DCA have helped present this event for 47 years.

There will be six stages for music and dance during the event, with the Eastern Shore Dance Academy kicking things off with their noon performance in front of the Art Center, and the Cambridge Ballet Folklorico group at 4 p.m., wrapping up the event in the same location.

In between live music and even Improv will be featured at various stages including 112 High St., 102 High St., 304 High St., 206 High St., and 103 High St.

Visits can expect to hear the Cambridge Ukulele Group, Trinidad and Tobago – the Baltimore Steel Drum Orchestra Duo, Reagan Kent, Bay Country Chorus Barbershop, Mid-Shore Community Band, Garrett Roe with karaoke, Mike Elzey & students, Ellis Rose, Paul Harrison and Kevin Diaz, and Bridgette Michaels.

Easton Improv will be on hand for a bit of community engagement. Stop by DCA and pick up the full schedule before heading out to the event.
Our thanks to the generous sponsors supporting this event: The Nathan Foundation, Crosby & Associates, Marianne Styles Music, the Pauline F. & W. David Robbins Foundation, and the Maryland State Arts Council.

Food vendors will offer delectable Eastern Shore cuisine while several local restaurants will be open for business. This juried event displays paintings, photography, ceramics, drawing/pastel, fiber/textiles, glass, jewelry, leather, wood, metal, mixed media, printmaking, sculpture, and found object; even heritage arts such as blacksmithing.

Artists and artisans travel from all over Delmarva, many returning year after year, to fill this beautiful waterfront venue with creative and unique artwork for show and sale. The day also offers free scheduled rides on the Skipjack Nathan of Dorchester. Visitors will also find an array of booths featuring area nonprofits, on hand to share their excellent work with event visitors.

For more information on additional programs and events at DCA, or current grant opportunities, visit www.dorchesterarts.org or stop by 321 High St. in Cambridge. As the designated County Arts Council for Dorchester County, DCA is committed to increasing access to the arts for all members of the community by supporting extensive outreach and educational opportunities in the arts.
