Speak Up: State schedules second-dose vaccine events at Dover speedway

Posted

Dover International Speedway will host a second-dose COVID-19 vaccination drive-thru site for six days beginning Sunday in a partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Delaware officials announced this week. Inclement weather anticipated for Saturday pushed out the start date by one day, to Sunday. These second-dose appointments will only be available for those who received a first dose from the Division of Public Health at one of the following events: Dover Division of Motor Vehicles on Jan. 16-18, Salesianum School in Wilmington on Jan. 18, Delaware City DMV on Jan. 22-24 and Georgetown DMV on Jan. 23-24.

  • Biden said he would take care of this pandemic just as soon as he was in office if we voted for him. He promised. He said he had a plan. — Donna Williams
  • He can’t just conjure vaccines out of thin air. — Benjamin Black
  • Well, if you read or heard he had a plan, why didn’t you do research yourself to locate it? You do realize the new administration stepped into this unable to take the existing plan and move on it or modify as needed because there was no existing plan. It simply didn’t exist. The previous administration has not denied this. — Carla Kilic
  • Why aren’t the second-vaccine appointments open to people who went other places for their first vaccine? The appointment process through the state for the first vaccine was horrendous. People searched and got their first appointments elsewhere. Now, the state is penalizing people for that and will only allow the second-vaccine appointment to be scheduled if you got the first vaccine through the state. I have to wonder if it’s even legal to block others from making an appointment for the second vaccine. — Patty Cantler Weyl
  • It’s my understanding that, as of Feb. 16, the bulk of teachers (not 65-plus or underlying conditions) are still awaiting scheduling for their first doses. The state has been advertising “vaccinating teachers” but not advertising that the DDOE has subphases within state Phase 1B. — Josh Calhoun
  • Congrats for those of you getting your second dose. Meanwhile, I have no idea when I will be getting mine. Or where I am on the lists I’ve signed up on. Or why, after I finally do get it, I’ll have to live in a mask for the next year anyway. Guess I should have been suspect when they started the thing off at the DMV. — Ron Pleasanton
