Speak Up: Minimum-wage bill advances through Delaware House committee

Posted

A $15 minimum wage is closer to reality after a House panel approved legislation that would lift Delaware’s wage floor from $9.25 to $15 in a series of steps. Following a three-hour hearing, the House Economic Development/Banking/Insurance/Commerce Committee voted along party lines to send the bill to the full chamber for a debate on raising the state minimum wage by $5.75 by 2025.

  • They better be prepared for unemployment to shoot up. — Jennifer Lawson
  • Let’s get this done, Delaware. — Jaden Blondin
  • How do the ones that have been working their way up to $15 feel? — Jeff Grzeszczak
  • By the time 2025 rolls around, you will be asking for $25. Why not let the workers decide how much they are worth? Workers can always go somewhere else to earn what they think they deserve. — Don J. Arvay
  • Hello, automation. — Donna Lea
  • You are late. — Rick Reed
  • Automation is inevitable. The only thing that changes is why it’s happening. Why is it that wages stagnate but prices jumped almost double anyway? Couldn’t possibly be greed. — Craig Walter
  • I’ll be waiting on my $6-an-hour raise. No reason for minimum wage to be $15 an hour. Want better pay? Get a better job. — Nikki Robinson Wilson
  • The question should not be “How can we keep wages lower?” but “What is the government going to do to supplement and help my business?” It is time to start demanding that the government take care of small and midsized businesses like they do big corporations. Small-business grants need to be expanded and made easier to get. Neither slave wages nor struggling businesses are good for the economy, state or nation. Workers and small-business owners both deserve a fair shake. We should be demanding better for both. — Calvin Sparks
