Speak Up: Mask requirements announced for Delaware schools, continued

Posted

Gov. John Carney announced last week that everyone in K-12 schools and child care centers must wear face coverings indoors effective Monday, regardless of vaccination status. The requirement covers both public and private schools in Delaware.

  • There are reasonable safety measures, and there are consequences to wearing masks, so no, the risks for mask-wearing for a largely not-at-risk cohort far exceed the minimal benefit provided to a select few. — Beth Gallagher
  • What consequences come from wearing masks? Let me guess, it’s government tyranny. — Jaden Blondin
  • Here we go again. — Devon Marie
  • Blame conservatives. — Matt Hickman
  • You could, but that would be ineffective. Why not instead blame our leaders on both sides for their inability to properly convey the efficacy and safety of the vaccine? The news isn’t helping, nor are the current results. People with the vaccine are getting and giving COVID to others. The only benefit that science has shown us is that the vaccine is reducing the chances of going to the hospital if you get COVID. This isn’t working out like the polio vaccine did. We crossed the 70% threshold that the government wanted on COVID vaccination, and we are still seeing issues. Now, we are seeing variants, which is inevitable, given that the flu does the same thing. Even if you get the vaccine, you have to wear a mask, you could still get sick and die, you could still give COVID to someone else or get a serious side effect from the vaccine. The risk/reward just isn’t there for most people to get the vaccine. If the government came out today and said no more lockdowns, no more masks, no more virtual learning, just get the vaccine, I can almost guarantee we would get to 90% vaccination rate. Instead, they are giving us watered-down answers and do everything and get nothing or else. — Aaron Layton
  • Conservatives are the poster children for “a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.” — William Mazzariello
  • Yep, more liberal control before elections. — Howard Gaines III
  • The governor isn’t up for reelection. — Dale Bert
