Speak Up: Dover reinstates Irish Mike’s business license

The city announced Thursday that it has reinstated Irish Mike’s Olde Town Pub’s business license following a meeting with officials and the establishment’s owner. “Be advised that following a meeting ... with (owner) Kevin Howard and (his attorney) John Paradee attended by Chief (Tom) Johnson and (City Solicitor) Nick Rodriguez, I reinstated the business license of Irish Mikes Olde Towne Pub effective Friday, Oct. 15,” David Hugg, Dover’s director of planning and inspection, said in a statement Thursday. “This reinstatement is based on a commitment by the owner to address underlying causes of prior incidents.”

• Went there a few months back. Got my first full-on, thorough pat-down before entering. Found it strange. Been to tons of bars. Never happened to me before. I feel they did their best, but it’s up to the police to control the neighborhood. Say, why haven’t they considered shutting down some of the hotels around here? There’s a few of the cheap ones that keep having to get busted in on to find all kinds of drugs, cash and guns brought by their guests. They’re complicit in the crime and taking dirty cash, harming the community. More than this bar, I feel. — Coty Gee
