Joseph Russillo scored in overtime to lift Smyrna High to a 9-8 victory over Dover in Henlopen Conference boys’ lacrosse on Wednesday afternoon.

It was the Eagles’ first win over Dover in the program’s four-year history. All four games in the series have been decided by only one goal each.

Russillo finished with six goals for Smyrna (2-2 in conference, 4-2 overall) which won its third game in a row. Jake Kaiser scored twice and Matthew Sarkissian added a goal.

Dylan Handel tallied a team-high three goals for Dover (1-2, 4-3). William Niebrzydowski (1 assist) had two goals with Devaughn Williams, Connor Ashoka-Garrett and Austin Dooley-Rosas scoring the others.

The Senators outscored Smyrna, 4-1, in the fourth period to send the contest to overtime tied at 8-8.

Milford 6, Delmar 5: Mark Henderson scored with 1:34 left in overtime as the Buccaneers improved to 6-0 with the Henlopen win.

Henderson had three goals and an assist for Milford, which outscored the Wildcats, 3-1, in the fourth period. Ring Lardner had two goals with Zachary Heesh adding a goal and assist.

Goalie Clay Stevenson made 12 saves.

Cape Henlopen 21, Sussex Central 0: The Vikings picked up a Henlopen win by shutout on Wednesday.

GIRLS, Polytech 19, Padua 3: Allie McKay (3 assists) and Jamie Trabaudo (1 assist) netted five goals apiee as the Panthers improved to 5-0.

Camryn Dennis and Katie Richardson (2 assists) added two goals each for Polytech, which led 14-1 at halftime. Shannon Stephen made three saves and Cherise Castello had two.

Caesar Rodney 15, Brandywine 5: Kourtney Olsen netted five goals and a pair of assists to pace the Riders (2-4) to the win on Wednesday.

Delaney Steele added four goals, Kacie Cava had three, Abigail Wearden scored two and Eibhlin Steele had one. Goalie Kaitlyn Longest made 11 saves as CR finished with a 31-17 edge in shots.

Baseball

Polytech 11, Lake Forest 4: The Panthers scored four runs in both the second and sixth innings to pull away to the Henlopen Conference victory.

Carter Chasanov hit a three-run double while Trey Obermire (2 RBI) had three of Polytech’s 12 hits. Winning pither Sean Hanhauser threw five strong innings,

Tyler Cauthren had two doubles while Tyler Collins also doubled for the Spartans.

Sussex Central 5, Cape Henlopen 1: The Golden Knights scored three runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth to post the Henlopen Conference win.

Winning pitcher Brody Grove threw a complete-game six-hitter.

David Kwan had two hits for Cape, including a solo homerun in the sixth.

St. Thomas More 8, Delmarva Christian 3: Winning pitcher Sean Pool struck out seven and went 3-for-4 to pace the Ravens to the Diamond State Conference win.

Travis Ziegler added a pair of doubles as St. Thomas More finished with 12 hits.

Stephen Magee had a pair of hits for the Royals.

Softball

Polytech 6, Lake Forest 5: The Panthers (4-0) rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to stay unbeaten.

Winning pitcher Shaina Reed struck out 11, walked only one and went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Catera Kennedy (1 RBI, 2 runs) went 2-for-3 while Kat Betts struck out five for Lake Forest, which took a 5-4 lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Girls’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 9, Seaford 0: Alexa Faulmino netted five goals as the Riders (5-0) remained undefeated.

Haley Prillaman, Rebekah Bernat, Cowan Cummings (1 assist) and Aleya Cummings (3 assists) also scored for CR, which led 9-0 at halftime.

The Riders, who haven’t allowed a goal yet this season, outshot the Blue Jays, 20-1.

Seaford’s Tomajah Whaley made six saves.

Delaware Military 6, Delmarva Christian 0: Goalie Lindsey Sullivan made 18 saves for the Royals in the Diamond State Conference loss.
