Indian River High netted three first-half goals in registering a 4-0 victory over Smyrna in girls’ soccer on Tuesday night.

The unbeaten Indians improved to 5-0 while the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season to fall to 4-1.

Madison Hogsten scored IR’s first two goals and added an assist. Natalie Herrera and Brooke Beam also scored for the Indians.

The shutout was the fourth of the season for Indian River, which has allowed only one goal this spring. Freshman goalie Fabrea McCray made six saves as the Indians held advantages of 15-9 in shots and 7-1 in corner kicks.

Smyrna’s Cassidy Cook stopped five shots.

Caesar Rodney 9, Laurel 0: Alexa Faulmino collected five goals and three assists as the Riders (4-0) stayed unbeaten.

CR, which scored all nine of its goals in the first half, also got goals from Aleya Cummings (2 assists), Rebekah Bernat, Cowan Cummings and Janiah Moore. The Riders finished with advantages of 20-1 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks.

Goalie Suzanna Cole made eight saves for the Bulldogs.

Sussex Tech 5, Concord 1: Wuendy Cruz-Velasquez tallied three goals, including two in the first half, as the Ravens improved to 4-2.

Michelle Laz also scored for Sussex Tech, which picked up an own goal and led 4-1 at halftime. The Ravens outshot the Raiders, 14-4.

Lacrosse

Boys,Sussex Tech 17, Indian River 4: Jason Whaley netted six goals and foour assists to pace the Ravens to the win on Monday.

Matthew Tull added five goals and a pair of assists while Nathaniel Quillen had three goals and an assist. Jacob Ryan made six saves for Sussex Tech, which outshot IR, 49-17.

The Indians’ George Martin scored twice with Hayden McWilliams making 16 saves.

Girls, Dover 14, Appoquinimink 10: Freshman Grace Gast scored five goals to spark the Senators (5-1) to the victory.

Mira Prisco added three goals while Cydney Barnes (3 assist) and Natalie Glascock (2 assists) both had two. Ashley Manifold and Ave Burleigh aso scored for Dover, which outshot the Jaguars, 34-16.

Cape Henlopen 20, St. Andrews 7: The Vikings jumped out to a 12-5 halftime lead before posting the victory.

College baseball

Delaware 5, Lehigh 1: Behind a strong pitching performance from sophomore Kevin Milley, the Blue Hens defeated Lehigh for the third time this season.

Delaware (14-12) won its fourth straight game as Milley struck out seven in seven innings and did not allow an earned run in his first start of the season.

Gary Jones (Caesar Rodney) hit a two-run homerun, his fourth homer of the season. Nick Spadafino (Dover) also pitched a shutout eighth inning for the Hens.

College lacrosse

Women, Delaware State 17, Howard 15: The Hornets led by 10 goals at the half and held off a furious Howard to win its season finale.

The Hornets won two of their last three games to end the program’s third season with a 2-13 record.

Emily Etkins scored a school-record six goals to lead the Hornets. Etkins ended the season with 28 goals to set a team record for the second straight year, eclipsing the previous high of 20 she set in 2014.

Iman Hassan, Kayla Yurkanin and Megan Card (Caesar Rodney) scored three goals each or the Hornets. Yurkanin and Card also had two assists.

Etkins and Card scored three goals each in the first period to lead the Hornets to a 13-3 lead at the half.

Howard scored eight of the first 10 goals in the second period to cut the Hornets’ lead to 15-11. After Etkins scored her fifth goal of the game to stretch DSU’s lead to five, the Bison responded with three in a row to pull to within 16-14.

Yurkanin gave the Hornets an insurance goal with 1:19 left.

Wesley 11, Gwynedd-Mercy 9: Kaitlyn Ennis and Mckenzie Marvel both scored four goals to lead the Wolverines to the win.

With the Wolverines (5-9) clinging to an 8-6 lead with just under 20 minutes left, Wesley scored three straight as Allison Perugini, Rodneisha Scott and Stephanie Blakely all found the back of the net.

Gwynedd answered with three goals in a row but couldn’t get any closer.

Along with her game-high five points, Ennis also led all players in ground balls (6), draw controls (4) and caused turnovers (3). In goal, Savannah Clough made eight saves.
