Roundup: Cape Henlopen girls keep rolling in Henlopen North

Cape Henlopen High built a 28-point advantage after three quarters before downing Caesar Rodney, 56-34, in Henlopen North girls’ basketball on Tuesday night.

The Vikings (5-0 North, 6-3 overall) have won 36 straight Henlopen North contests since 2019.

Senior Morgan Mahoney tallied 18 points for Cape Henlopen with Mehkia Applewhite (13) and Julia Saleur (11) also scoring in double figures.

CR was led by Nubia Estwick with 13 points.

Dover 54, Polytech 26: The Senators used a 15-6 second-run to break open the Henlopen North victory.

Freshman Sara Benson had a team-high 15 points for Dover with sophomore Malaya Milstead adding 13.

Smyrna 53, Milford 18: The Eagles built a 32-12 halftime lead en route to the Henlopen North win.

Freshman Kai Burnette scored a team-high 12 points for Smyrna as eight Eagles scored at least two points.

Lake Forest 48, Sussex Academy 10: The Spartans netted 16 unanswered points in the first quarter before improving to 6-1.

Gabrielle Almonte had 14 points to lead Lake Forest with Kadija Bundu adding 11.

Seaford 75, Indian River 16: The Blue Jays netted 29 first-quarter points in the Henlopen South win.

Boys’ basketball

Caesar Rodney 70, Cape Henlopen 57: Craig Williams netted 17 points, with three of the Riders’ seven three-pointers, in CR’s Henlopen North victory.

Malachi Brinkley (five assists) and Messiah Antwi (10 rebounds, 5 assists) both added 13 points for the Riders, who held a 55-42 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Trey Leggins had a game-high 20 points while Odin DeLazaro Potemski (11) and Dylan Fannin (10) also reaching double figures for Cape. The Vikings hit 10 three-pointers.

Dover 67, Polytech 49: The Senators outscored the Panthers, 40-23, in the second half to close out their seventh straight win.

Smyrna 52, Milford 41: The Eagles trailed by two at halftime before outscoring the Buccaneers, 23-11, in the third quarter to take control.

Elisha Gregory (15), who went 7-for-10 from the foul line, and Kevin Woodruff (10) both led Smyrna.

Etan Wilkins (12) and Andrew Kravitz (11) paced the Buccaneers.

Seaford 63, Indian River 36: The Blue Jays sank 10 three-pointers, getting at least one from five different players, in the Henlopen South win.

Tyrese Fortune, who scored 17 points, and Kashmeir Wise (nine) had three threes each.

The Indians were led by Brandon Bradford (16) and Jamie Burns (12).

Woodbridge 67, Laurel 53: The Blue Raiders outscored the Bulldogs, 21-13, in the second quarter to open up a 14-point lead before posting the Henlopen South win.

Delmarva Christian 68, First State Military 36: The Royals improved to 6-2 with the non-conference victory.

College basketball

WOMEN, Delaware 64, James Madison 57: Playing in their third game in five days, the Blue Hens improved to 4-0 in the CAA, 10-4 overall).

Jasmine Dickey led Delaware with 26 points (3-of-6 from three-point range) and became the eighth player in program history to reach 1,500 career points. She currently sits eighth in the record books with 1,520 career points.

Dickey also added 14 rebounds, five blocks and four assists to post her sixth double-double on the season.

Ty Battle followed with 17 points) and 11 rebounds to register her ninth double-double on the season.
