Letter to the Editor: There are solutions to slow mail delivery

Posted

A Christmas card I had sent to a friend of mine in Maryland was just received over the weekend. It was postmarked Dec. 16.

Now, we have heard a few reasons as to why the mail delivery is so slow, two of which are that too many Amazon packages are being shipped to be delivered by USPS and that mail-in ballots for the election delayed the system.

Well, the election is over, so no problem there. And as for Amazon: Let it start its own delivery service or rely more on UPS and FedEx. It would be a shame to see the U.S. Postal Service eliminated, but problems with it have been brewing for years. Apparently, they have finally spilled over.

But none of those problems is unsolvable. They can be corrected with the right leadership and direction. Many of us still love to mail and receive greeting cards and handwritten letters. It’s a way to brighten a day that technology cannot do.

So instead of complaining, get it together and let’s get the mail moving again in a timely and efficient manner.
