Letter to the Editor: Elders, offer knowledge to those younger

Posted

The young generation is losing the battle of responsibility. We need to mentor them.

Everyone is responsible to help their family succeed in life. The number one objective in life is getting a good education. If you can’t afford college, you learn a skill. If you get into a field that is in demand, you can be successful.

I see the problem is that the young people want to choose their jobs. If you don’t get an education, then you have to settle for a labor job and bring home minimum wages. Living on low wages can tempt some young people to do something illegal. Once they get a record their future is dim.

If a child gets serious about the future with encouragement from their parents, they will not depart from their dream. My father encouraged me to learn by telling how life can be unfair. He instilled in me that there was one thing man cannot take away from you, and that is what you learn. I have never stopped trying to learn something new.

All the older men and women need to take someone under their wing and teach them everything they have learned. Don’t take all the knowledge and experience to the grave with you. What is wrong with the world today is that young people don’t want to work in the same field their parents do. They would rather do nothing until they find something they want to do.

Washington can’t help, they have their own problems.
