Letter to the Editor: Climate-protection legislation will impact our future

Posted

For our generation, climate change is deeply personal. It will impact our future livelihoods. The science is clear: Climate change poses a grave risk. That is why I felt uplifted to see Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., introduce a robust climate solution in Congress recently. Climate change will require global action — and this legislation will put us on the right track.

Sen. Coons’ bill, the FAIR Transition and Competition Act, charges an import fee for products that pollute our atmosphere. In short, the market signal created by this legislation will incentivize foreign producers to reduce their emissions levels and accelerate the international transition to clean energy.

My generation is fully aware of the risks of climate change, and we are deeply concerned. That’s why we support tangible solutions to curb its worst effects. There is still time to make an impact, but it requires inspired leadership and action. By introducing a major pro-environment, pro-clean-energy bill, Sen. Coons is rising to the occasion and demonstrating what it means to lead effectively on this vital issue. He has my support.
