Letter to the Editor: Are we headed for crash and burn?

Posted

Somebody, please answer these questions for me and also for your readers.

Why are we still giving out boxes and boxes of food at food banks, when businesses and establishments all over are seeking employees? Why are businesses having to close a few days or shorten hours because of a lack of staff? Why is our government now in conversation with OPEC, when the last few years we were energy-independent? Why is everything going up? Is it because employers are having to pay two or three times more per hour just to be able to survive?

My husband and I drove to Maryland to eat out, and on the way out, we were having a conversation about an ultimate economic crash and burn. A woman doing landscape work overheard our conversation. Joining the conversation, she said her cook was leaving and she was at her wits’ end, and she couldn’t find anyone for landscape work. She was the owner. She agreed that crash and burn will be the outcome this fall or early next year.

Can anyone tell me who is responsible? Please don’t blame it on the pandemic.
