DOVER – More than 30 Delaware-based artists and artisans will gather at the Biggs Museum of American Art Saturday for the fourth annual Delaware By Hand Holiday Market.

Wares including hand-blown glass, woodwork, painting, jewelry and sculpture will be on sale.

Delaware By Hand is a nonprofit organization comprised of the Biggs’ member artisans.

Since the Holiday Market started four years ago, the Biggs has worked in collaboration with First State Heritage Park which hosts the 18th Century Market Fair, which also takes place Saturday on The Green.

The Market Fair will have artisans and historical reenactments, so the Biggs Holiday Market, with contemporary and modern collections poses a nice contrast, officials say.

“The 18th-Century Market Fair demonstrates the past in craft technologies and aesthetics with costumed artisans within a period-feeling market square,” said Ryan Grover, curator of the Biggs.

“The Biggs Museum’s Holiday Market features the work of its artist members, Delaware By Hand, to show the latest in design and craft technology within the state of Delaware.”

With the two events working in partnership, Mr. Grover said last year the Biggs was able to garner nearly 5,000 visitors to the DBH event.

The market will have more than artists and vendors, two food trucks, The Plum Pit (specializing in modern world cuisine) and Mama Mia (specializing in homemade Italian dishes, subs and salads) will be on site.

“It’s something that’s fun and it’s great for families and anyone looking to expand their collection,” Mr. Grover said.

The DBH Holiday Market runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The DBH Market isn’t the only thing happening at the Biggs this weekend –– a new exhibit entitled “New Discoveries” featuring the paintings and metal work of Michael Robear is debuting.

The exhibit opens tonight with a reception from 5 to 7 and will be on display on the third floor of the Biggs until Jan. 10.
